The mission of the Holomicrobiome Initiative is twofold:

  1. through pooling, coordinating and focusing research, to learn how individual microbiomes in the overall holomicrobiome of the Dutch food system interact, and
  2. to use this knowledge to promote the development of innovative products, interventions and services aimed at increasing the health and sustainability of that food system as a whole.

Implicit in this mission is the objective to forcefully promote long-term innovation and economic opportunities based on these insights with the help of targeted public and private R&D investments.
