The Holomicrobiome Initiative aims to establish the Holomicrobiome Institute, a public/private microbiome research institute with a groundbreaking, cross-domain focus: microbiomes in humans, animals, plants, soil and water, all part of the holomicrobiome of the Dutch food system. The Institute’s research stretches all the way from fields, wastewater and crops to farm animals, food, consumers and patients.

The Holomicrobiome Institute will be a spider in a large web of knowledge institutions, knowledge organisations, R&D-driven companies and NGOs involved in microbiome research and applications in the Netherlands.

Today, these players typically operate within silos of separate domains. The new Institute brings them under a common umbrella, thereby helping them to produce the knowledge that is needed to enable and accelerate the development and implementation of innovative microbiome-related innovations in all the domains.
