The mission of the Holomicrobiome Initiative is twofold:

  1. to learn and predict how microbiomes in the Dutch food system work and interact by initiating, coordinating, bundling and integrating research in various domains, and
  2. produce early evidence of efficacy and safety of innovative microbiome-related applications in all domains by means of theoretical computational models that have been validated in practical settings.

Implicit in this mission is the objective to forcefully promote long-term microbiome-related innovation and economic opportunities with the help of targeted public and private R&D investments.
