Impacts on society

Domeinen

Once created and made accessible, predictive models of microbiomes and the holomicrobiome will be of great value to innovative companies, scientists, governments and society. The institute itself will actively promote the application and economic and societal valorisation of newly gained basic knowledge.

A wide range of innovative applications are expected in each of the domains that span the food system holomicrobiome. New methods to clean and recycle animal manure or fertilize agricultural crops with micro-organisms, for example. New food products that make people, animals and agricultural crops more resilient; and new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat chronic diseases. These are just a few examples of many potential applications in the rapidly growing field of microbiomes.

Thanks to the institute, companies will have opportunities to identify, test, develop and market innovative and better products and services on a large scale, from new ways of fertilizing in agriculture to new disease treatments for humans and animals.

Governments will be better able to develop policies that look beyond domain boundaries and regulations for powerful microbiome applications in many areas.
