Holomicrobiome modelling

big-data

The Holomicrobiome Institute will focus much microbiome research on populating and utilizing one integrated database, to be built by the Institute. In the database, large amounts of research data are collected using new holomicrobiome-wide standards. They will be linked, stored, and made widely accessible. Besides existing studies, new cross-domain cohort and field studies will be important sources of data.

With the help of artificial intelligence (AI), mathematical modelling and other computational sciences, the growing database will be analysed and used to create predictive, virtual scale models of individual microbiomes and the entire holomicrobiome. Eventually, these models will enable researchers and companies to do theoretical experiments and make predictions about the positive effects of proposed microbiome interventions and about the potential of side-effects in other compartments of the holomicrobiome.

Innovative companies will be able to use these new tools to identify, test, develop and market promising candidates for new and better products, services and other interventions in various sectors.
